Choices with Generational impacts

August 9, 2023

Joshua 24:15—But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”

Joshua 6:22—Meanwhile, Joshua told the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the house of the prostitute and bring out the woman and all who are with her, just as you promised her.” So the young spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers, and all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and settled them outside the camp of Israel.

Hebrews 11:31—By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies in peace, did not perish with those who were disobedient

Fellow who was intent on embarrassing King Solomon.

There is a well-known Jewish legend about a tricky fellow who was intent on embarrassing King Solomon. He came before the King and his court with both hands behind his back. He announced that in his hands was a small bird, and he asked the King: “Is the bird alive or is it dead?” If the king said, “Dead,” he would show him the living bird, but if the king said, “Alive,” he would break the bird’s neck, then showing everyone the dead bird. “So, what will it be?” he said to the king, “Dead or alive?” The ever-wise king simply responded: “It’s all in your hands.”

Your choices can impact the outcome of your life.

Let me close with a quote from the Rev. Michael Curry, “You keep the faith. Keep the faith when you feel like it and keep it when you don’t.  Keep the faith.  Keep the faith when you think you know what you’re doing, and keep the faith when you don’t.  Keep the faith on the mountain top of exaltation, and keep the faith in the valley of humiliation. You keep the faith in God.”
